Never Say Never

Never say you would never fill a puppymill's pockets with money...if it means getting dogs out of the breeding-reproducing cycle--forever.

Never say you would never write a novel-length manuscript, and you would also never share your writing in an auditorium...you just might have a story that's begging to get out.

Never say you will never get another puppy...because you might encounter a litter of 11 Goldens, and they melt your heart.

We are still in the thinking/vacillating stage--I think--but by
the end of the month, we will have decided yes or no and if it's
a yes, we will pick out a rescued puppy to adopt...and then, heaven help us!

What was the last time you said "never" and then you had to eat your words?

  1. Oh gosh, such a sweet looking puppy. We wonder if we did the right thing bringing Biscuit home but there was really no other choice for her! There are days I could weep wondering what we have done tying ourselves down again, making house smell doggy, hair flying in every corner...but then there are the funny moments and her trying to put 40 pounds and long legs into a ball on our laps! It is such a mixed bag...just go with it I guess. The puppy stage is hard to get through but when you get such a young dog you know here it has been and what has happened to her. With Biscuit, we do not even though she is only about 2.

  2. I think the last time I said "never" was when I found myself in a job that just drove me up the wall. I remember telling myself that I would "never end up putting myself through this sort of thing again." That was a decade ago. Now, ten years on, I find myself in similar circumstances, almost like a cruel, 'Groundhog Day' kind of unfolding of my life. But, overall, the changes that I have attempted to make seem to be manifesting themselves in strangely surprising and exciting ways, so if I were to use the word "never" now, it would probably sound more like, "I never thought I'd let myself achieve a future I didn't even think to be possible." :)

    1. Rohin--I hope the strangeness and excitement continues--all in good ways.

  3. "I'll never move around from pillar to post. I want to settle down!" When I was a kid I was dragged around so often I can't even remember all the schools I attended. I determined to stay put when I became an adult. But during my first marriage we lived in11 places. Single again added 2 more. Since marrying we've added 9 different homes. Been here for four years and I haven't hung the curtains yet.

    1. Marcia--Perhaps THAT is the secret to your award-winning poetry writing.

I'm going to put my house up for sale and in another year, I'll move again. And I'll keep moving until I start winning writing awards.

      Yeah, that's the ticket...;)

  4. I actually am wary of the word "never", because it's just so definitive, you know?

The puppy seems like a good idea to me. :-D

    1. Pearl--It IS quite definitive.

Yes, it seems like a wonderful idea to me as well...

  5. The last time I said never and had to eat my words was when I left New Hampshire for Vegas to go to college. I went bar hopping with my big bro the week before I left for the desert and we spent half the night talking about how I wasn't going to fall for some frat boy. *sigh* I met my husband the third week in, we were engaged three months after that and married a year later. We're coming up on 34 years on the 24th of this month, so I can't really complain. I did have to eat my words, but they taste pretty sweet. :)

    1. Lisa--What a great ending--having to eat your words but they tasted "sweet."

Happy (early) anniversary. Of course, that number is a lie. You and your hubby are barely in your 40's. (Are you STILL trying to pull off that ruse, with those rental-kids of yours? ;)

  6. Oh -- and the puppy! Those Goldens will get you right in the heart every time. Good idea. Just give in. You know you're going to anyway. :)

  7. Those golden babies look like they are begging for a home. By the way, your performance was one of the best, said the horn tooter who did not interrupt your performance at LTYM. I agree!

    1. Linda--I think the horn tooter was fixated on his helicopter, and got mentally sidetracked. But tell him thanks...

  8. Eleven? Obviously, that litter needs to be thinned, and you're just the one to do it.

Never? That would have been after my first son was born.

  9. Oh, it looks like a puppy is in the picture... good luck with that one, although I know after all the rough times, it will be so worth it. I said I'd never marry again after I got divorced the first time. Ahem, I'm on my fourth. Egads, I've been eating those words for quite some time now. Ha.

  10. Yes, Lynn...puppy pee and puppy poop is in the picture as well... ;)

  11. I am convinced that Golden Retriever puppies could be used to inflict the most insidious torture ever ("Do as I say, or I will take the puppy away from you"). So I wouldn't blame you in the slightest for caving - and either way, hooray for you for helping. I've learned never to say never. I'm just too unpredictable.
