This is my granddaughter, Riley, last summer in Navarre, Florida (aka as "heaven" according to Linda O'Connell). |
I had great hopes of making some major progress on my "longish" project, but it hasn't happened to the extent I had hoped...at least so far. However, maybe it's not the time for it. The Byrds (and Pete Seeger, of course) sang, "To every thing...turn turn turn...there is a season...turn turn turn." Maybe in a week, a month---then it will be time to make some serious headway...
What are you wanting to accomplish/enjoy while the summer is still here?
By the way, Lynn Obermoeller and Donna Volkenannt are doing a book signing on Sunday, July 14 (just a few days from now). There are other local writers--including Marcia Gaye--who are part of the anthology that's being launched. If you can, stop by...
I always seem to have a list that lacks attention...before Christmas, during the winter, before spring, in summer, etc.... I have notes all over for some essays to make solid on paper instead of in my mind...have not gotten to it yet...but console myself with enjoyment of summer, days not to be wasted. I can write when the snow blows!
ReplyDeleteBookie--The problem with some of my lists is I lose them, only to unearth them 6 or 7 months later...way too late to act on them.
DeleteAnd you are so right. Sometimes on a snowy day (like a snow day for teachers) I can really write up a storm (pun intended ;).
Riley is beautiful! My only grand-kids have four legs, so I don't know the joy of two-legged grandchildren yet. One of these days!
ReplyDeleteI've been spending hours on my WIP and have approx. 26,000 words in. Still many thousands more to go, but I'm getting there. :)
Lisa--Four-legged ones are great...until the time is right for the two-legged ones. There is no greater joy--because you and your grandchildren have a common enemy: your kids and their parents. ("You want ice cream for lunch? Grammy says 'Yes!'--Just kidding, but the release a grandparent feels is delightful.)
DeleteI am right with you, Lisa. I have many more thousands to go, and hoping at the end that it's not just a huge pile of poop. Adding 500 here and 800 there is keeping me moving forward...Good luck with YOUR WIP.
I always have high hopes and a long list, but truth is I'm formulating more excuses than plots lately.

Critter Alley
Pat--I thought I was the only one who had accumulated stacks of excuses. Perhaps we could form a club? ;)
DeleteBut Riley is having so much FUN in that picture. Like summer will never end. I choose her attitude over yours.
ReplyDeleteYou, Madam, are like the monster-shouter from The Stand. I prefer to keep my head in the sand until my back-to-school letter appears suddenly in my mailbox. Then I can worry about all that I have not accomplished.
Oh, noooo! You reminded me of THE LETTER. THE LETTER that will rear its ugly head--soon--in my mailbox.
DeleteThanks a lot, Val.
I'm planning to survive. I hate summer. I hate the heat, I hate the long daylight, I hate the crowds and the noise, especially the five weeks of nightly fireworks we laughingly call "the 4th of July". It is my least favorite season by far. That said, there *are* things I love about summer...the green growing things, and baseball.
ReplyDeleteShay--I completely agree with you. I hide during the summer (curtains closed, AC on, a book in my hand). Fall is my favorite season, but too often, we don't have much autumn. We'll see this year...
DeleteThanks for the shout-out AND for making the trip down to Columbia. All that time you could've been writing, but maybe now you have more stuff to write about! Ha.
ReplyDeleteRiley is a cutie!
I'd like to accomplish SOMETHING... over the summer.
Lynn--You ARE accomplishing something. You're working on three books and making progress with all of them.
