With the weather conspiring against us, it was necessary to look for the bright spots buried under the white (and then dingy) blanket.
* I sent off a letter to a friend. Without this long expanse of time off work, I'm not sure I would have taken the time--at least not this week.
* Finishing a black scarf for my son--along with a blue one for one of his best friends--made me feel like I accomplished something as I knit and watched
* I got immersed in Falling Leaves: The Memoir of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter by Adeline Yen Mah. I'm in the middle of it and it's heartbreaking but compelling...
*Pitching some things made me feel better, but when I found a gold box labeled Godiva and frantically opened it to see if a piece was hiding in the corner, uneaten, I felt foolish. I knew I had gobbled up every one of those delicious delicacies. Only David Copperfield could have made a piece reappear...
* I submitted a few things---to start the new year off--and am
* I was entertained by one of our Goldens. Foley, not the brightest of dogs, loved frolicking in the snow. He would deliberately head for the deepest drifts and come back with snow on his nose and a zip in his step.
What positive things happened to you this past week? It's now a new year--what good things are going on in your life?
Sounds like a great week to me! It must have felt so good to stand back and look and what you had done...and without time pressure too. I found the snow immobilizing but the thaw had spurred me to work. Writing like crazy on a project that will go who knows where. Can you email me at bookwoman1015ATsbcglobal.net? I can't find your email address which I thought I had....might need it someday!
ReplyDeleteClaudia--I thoroughly enjoyed the extra time off. I'm assuming your "project" is the novel (a western?)--the project you were writing a death scene and a love scene for? Good luck.
Delete(Jaws theme please)
ReplyDeleteToday is Day One of my month off. One poem up. ??? to go!
Shay--Oh, no. Thanks for the warning. The Wordgarden Beach will not be safe for swimming for the next month.
Delete(Stop the madness! ;)
Do teachers love snow days as much as the kids? More than the kids?
ReplyDeleteBirdie--They love them way more than the kids. A teacher--on a snow day--can be heard across small countries when they get the call that there's no school.
DeleteI have submitted eight essays and received two acceptances in less than two weeks. After falling in the snow, injuring my knee again, third time in three months, I am finally getting a bit of relief today. Was afraid the doc and I were going to have to chat.
ReplyDeletedo WE love snow days. You tell 'em!
Linda--That is a great percentage. No wonder you're published everywhere--8 submissions since the beginning of the year (I'm assuming). Wow!
DeleteI have enjoyed five snow days. To the hilt. Which is not to say that anything got accomplished.
ReplyDeleteVal--Then we could do a duet. I did my report cards (because I HAD to during my break) but right now, at 9:13 at night, I'm busy scrambling getting ready for tomorrow. After all, I am the Princess of Procrastination.
DeleteThey were good while they lasted...
With the kids home, not as productive as I should have been. But yesterday I wrote a page of a new project, and edited the ending of a book that still needs more editing! (But hey, it's a start!)
ReplyDeleteMary--That sounds quite productive. There are times when "life happens" and we have to enjoy those times (spend time with the kids) instead of feeling guilty...
DeleteThings are going well. Thanks for asking! :-)
ReplyDeleteWrote 4000 words last week on credit cards for an online UK magazine. I am now compelled to create a household budget using the techniques I've used. Strange how a little education will do that... I've gone to yoga 6 times in the last 13 days, and I've stuck to my diet as well.
We're off to a good start!
Pearl
Pearl--Is there a serious side we don't know about? Where do you find the time?
ReplyDeleteYoga AND diet...I am extremely jealous. I've just gotten bigger...;)
Glad you put those extra days to good use! I learned a few new home repairs, got caught up on some errands and enjoyed the extra time with my daughter home from college. Not a bad start to the year...though I feel cheated. We only got 4 days. ;)
ReplyDeleteTammy--Sorry. But I'm glad you got to spend some time with your college kiddo...
DeleteSounds like you lived up to your reputation for making everything fun, even snow days. We've actually had kind of a rocky start to 2014, but I suppose that means it will only get better. :) Looking forward to March when my son gets married -- he and his fiancee live in Sarasota about ten minutes from the beach, so it's a double win for me. I get a new daughter AND four days at the beach.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. A free place by the beach, and a new girl in the family. That IS a win-win...(I hope your rocky start was not too rough.)
DeleteI'm a little behind in reading blog posts but I did save this one to look at when the world was dreary. We are in the middle of a terrible winter storm and I just needed to see this picture again to cheer me up. Thank you.
