I am taking Margo Dill's suggestion, and I'm heading to an independent book store today, in order to give a twist to Independence Day.
Also, I'm a few days late drawing a name, but Vickie Newman won a copy of Not Your Mother's Book...On Being a Mom. (Of course, Vickie's last name was like a curse whenever it was uttered on Seinfeld--Val, you know what I'm talkin' 'bout--but I certainly won't hold it against Vickie.)
And as a final note today, Love a Golden is having their annual trivia night on August 23. It's held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Charles. We have a wonderful silent auction and free beer (not a draw for me, but I'm strange). If you live in the area and are interested, check out the "events" for more details. (And if you have anything you'd like to donate to auction/raffle off, please contact me. Love a Golden is a 501 (c) (3) group, so all donations are tax deductible.)
Congratulations to Vickie NnnnEWMAN! Great idea for the 4th. Enjoy the holiday!
ReplyDeleteTammy--It WAS fun browsing the shelves yesterday...
DeleteHahahahaha! Love Sienfeld (not so much NnnnEWMAN!). Great idea indeed....and Sioux, Happy Dance time - so excited! Sent you an email...thank you! Vickie
ReplyDeleteVickie--You are quite welcome. I hope you enjoy the book.
DeleteWhat's NOT to love about a Golden?
ReplyDeleteThe incredible amount of shedding I could do without...
DeleteWhawt a great way to celebrate...wish I were near one to celebrate Fourth your way! Hope your day is good....
ReplyDeleteClaudia--Hanging out at a bookstore...always great.
DeleteCongratulations, VvvvvICKIE! I'm sure you would drape yourself in copies of books that you've won...if it was socially acceptable.
ReplyDeleteVal--That IS socially acceptable.
DeleteI love the idea of Indie Day!
ReplyDeleteMama Zen--Shopping for books is always a fine idea.
DeleteHey, thanks for taking my advice. Now if you could only talk to my husband.
ReplyDeleteMargo--I'm no help in that department. I have one of those myself...(and he doesn't listen to me either)
DeleteGood celebration idea. I read somewhere (can't recall where) that after the demise of so many independent bookstores after the takeover of the giants (B&N, B. Dalton, Walden, etc.) that many new independents are popping up again now that digital readers have dropped the bomb on those big boys. People still like "real" books, and while the mega-stores have trouble staying in business, the small independents are now beginning to fill a niche. I don't know if that's true or not, but I hope so. I love spending time in bookstores, especially the small friendly ones.
ReplyDeleteGotta support the "Indies" any way we can. Great suggestion, Sioux!

Since I'm late at this, I'll just have to visit an indie on some other day! I'll also check out the Love a Golden link. What kind of stuff are you looking for?
