Her creative name is a nod to my favorite brand of shoes (only the ones that can be hosed off. Those fancy, frou-frou fleece-lined Crocs are an ugly smear on haut couture). It's also a nod to Miami Vice, an incredibly inane television show that so many of us watched--so many decades ago.
I've decided to do NaNoWriMo this year, but since I am not starting from scratch and since there is no way in not-heaven I will add 50,000 more words to what I have so far, I needed a name. Maverick...Rebel... (which is what I was last year)...NaNoWriMoDoDo (that was another of my favorites).
Renee Roberson told me to eat all the mashed potatoes I want. She also suggested I do NaNo, set a goal and broadcast it so I can't
Okay. Pass the potatoes, and take a gander at my goal--15,000 words during the month of November. I figure that word count is better than a trickle of ink... and without the prod and prompting of NaNoWriMo, a pathetic trickle might be all I get.
That's around 500 words a day. I'm hoping that's do-able.
It's from one of my favorite movies--
"Benny and Joon."
Hooray! Congrats on taking the plunge. Keep us posted on your progress, Miss NaNoWriMoCrocIt. (that's a mouth full)

Critter Alley
Pat--Hopefully, my keyboard will get as much use this month as my Crocs do. ;)
DeleteKeep us posted on YOUR progress...
Okay, I missed about a bazillion posts of yours and wondered how I missed the NaNo name for you... oh yeah, I was out of town and I'm still trying to catch up. I was creating NaNo names for my niece and her partner. :-) I think I like NaNoWriMoDoDo because it could be - well I took it that you meant do-do as in poo-poo, but what about do-do as in DO IT! DO!DO! Get it? Dur. At any rate, I can't do do it this time as I'll be gone a lot, but I may do do like you and make a different kind of goal. Need to give this some thought. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLynn--I hope you DO make a goal for yourself. However, you're prolific enough without setting goals for yourself...
DeleteCongrats to Linda! (Toe jam notwithstanding.) I applaud your NaNoWriMo efforts. It's a big bite to chew during the start of the holidays. I always wondered why they didn't have it in October---clearly, the creator of NaNoWriMo is not a woman with a family expecting a full layout for turkey day, the preparations for which begin three days prior with clean up lasting for three days after.
ReplyDeleteTake a deep breath and start writing! You can do it!
Lisa--I agree. November (besides being a shorter month) is NOT an ideal time of the year for this.
DeletePerhaps we should lean out a window of a highrise, shout "We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore," and insist that NaNoWriMo be switched to a different month?
Love Love Love 500 Miles, and Benny & Joon. I get a little scared when we have things in common. haha
ReplyDeleteWell, Ms. NaNoWriMoCrocIt, I'm proud of you for being committed, as you should be. (See what I did there?) I'm still on the fence. I HAVE to get committed too but my ink well is dry - still maybe a fount will spring forth if I apply my inner shovel and get to digging. I'll have to use my Dragon voice software though because I can't even type fast enough to do that word count. So I guess joining a group write-in wouldn't work so well unless I like to be pelted with coffee mugs.
Yeah--haha--I might need to be committed by the end of November.
DeleteWell ain't that a croc! Couldn't you throw in some chest hair?
ReplyDeleteLinda--I'll call Jimmy. I'm sure he'll be glad to send some your way...
DeleteI appreciate your gumption. However, the thought of it makes me want some mashed potatoes and a nap. I've got to slow myself down to be ready for retirement in 1 and 3/4 years, you know.
ReplyDeleteVal--Don't rub it in, especially on a holiday week.
DeleteCongratulations to Linda and her enviable prize! I love the idea of making NaNo into a smaller, more attainable goal. A NanoNaNo, as it were. Because of course Lisa is right. The only worse month would be December. Oh, and I too love-love-love 500 Miles!
ReplyDeleteTammy--Perhaps if I call it NaNoNaNo, I can channel Robin Williams' genuis wit?
DeleteCheering you on, Sioux -- good luck with NaNoNaNo. And those fur-lined crocs sure do sound cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cheerleading. I have a feeling I will need it. ;)
DeleteSO doable! And now you've put it out there so all of us can badger you to get 'er done.
ReplyDeleteUm...encourage you. I meant encourage. :-)
Cathy--I thought I felt something poking my in the back(side).
