Back-of-the-Book Blurb is Coming (Hopefully)

Hundreds of years ago, before Lisa Ricard Claro became a multi-book published writer, she hosted Book Blurb Friday. I think everyone who participated on a regular basis enjoyed it. I think everyone who took part also misses it.

The challenge was this: take the photo that Lisa posted, and imagine it as the graphic for the front of a book. Each blogger then chose their genre, the book's title, and wrote a blurb that might appear on the back of the book--in 150 words or less.

I'm going to try and breathe life back into this challenge. Hopefully, I installed Mr. Linky in the correct way, and if my crossed-fingers work, the post will go up on Friday.

In the meantime, here is the photo that will the first in a string of prospective book covers.

And if you have any photos you'd like to send me to use, please do so. My photographic skills are severely lacking. My email address is sroslawski(at)yahoo.com.

So, between now and Friday, think of this picture, think of a book that would match this cover, and start writing...

  2. I am down for the challenge. Or is that UP for the challenge? Kind of like George and Jerry debating ON the wagon/OFF the wagon...

  3. Oh, I remember that--and it's an excellent writing exercise, though I never participated. Maybe I'll have the time now!

  4. Squee!! I'm so glad you picked up the gauntlet! This was the best writing exercise ever. It not only forces tight writing, but it generates so many ideas. The book I'm currently working on---I just hit 42,000 words, so when I say I'm working on it, I mean I'm smack in the middle of it---is based on one of my blurbs from Book Blurb Friday (a photo donated by Kathy Matthews), and I have a mystery series on the boards, also based in a blurb from BBF. This is such a wonderful tool for writers! I'll participate whenever I can, Sioux.

  6. I did Book Blurb a time or two (I think). Sounds like fun.

I got the book. It looks amazing! Thank you, Sioux!

  8. At first glance the picture looked very Egyptian to me. Somebody is one heck of a sand sculptor!
