Life is full of surprises. Some good. Some bad.
The long white mustache hair that eludes me on a regular basis--not a good surprise when it goes into hiding and then pops up at inopportune times.
The extra-warm socks I got for Christmas (so I wouldn't keep stealing my husband's socks)... a good surprise.
And for my son's girlfriend--now fiancee--a wonderful surprise at the Botanical Garden: a proposal.
What a beautiful couple! I wish them much happiness!
ReplyDeleteSurprises? When I sent my son Genius and his college buddy into Walmart to pick up a roll of paper towels, and they came out with a 6-pack. Of paper towels. "Mom. They are much cheaper this way. It was five dollars and something for TWO rolls, and only seven for SIX rolls!"
I guess I can store the surplus in Genius's room.
Val--Well, they might not have been thinking about storage challenges, but they DID have the math right.
DeleteCongratulations! What an adorable couple. Going to be fun times ahead. I am meeting with many cousins today. I'm quite certain there will be surprises.
ReplyDeleteLinda--Thanks. They ARE so cute together.
DeleteI hope you have fun--if it's a fun get-together--with your cousins today.
SO cute! Know you're thrilled for them!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I prefer the good surprises. Finding that MY son finally sent a car payment to me today--that was awesome! :-)
Cathy--If your son is anything like my son, he's occasionally forgetful. Or absentminded. Or in his own little world...
DeleteSurprises that involve money? Those ARE awesome!
Congratulations to your handsome son and his beautiful bride-to-be. They look so happy! :) Ah, surprises. Well, the good ones are nice. The bad ones---like finding out my car needs new tires, which happened today---not so good. But I suppose without the bad the good wouldn't shine quite as bright.
ReplyDeleteLisa--Thanks. They ARE a happy twosome.
DeleteThat last line--I love that philosophy. You could put that on a T-shirt and make some moolah, but then, perhaps that phrase is already on a shirt...
Love that picture. Congrats to the happy couple!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on surprises in reading/writing. It's much more memorable if a story gives the reader a surprise than when it's easy to figure out what will happen. The perfect example (in my mind) is the movie, The Sixth Sense. What a wowzer! And even better to watch it again and notice the subtle clues which were there all along.

Pat--Thanks. And if you liked The Sixth Sense, you should read Jodi Picoult's "Leaving Time." It's got a surprise ending that totally blindsided me (in a good way)>
