Radar is getting used to sleeping on a dog bed instead of a crate that
It's not St. Patrick's Day yet, but leprechauns have been working their magic. We just got word yesterday that St. James the Greater School will be open next year. (That doesn't necessarily mean I will have a job last year, as registration packets will have to be returned, enrollment numbers will have to be studied, etc. However, it is 100% marvelous news for the students.)
And now... book blurb business.
Look at the photo below. That is the cover of your book. You choose the genre. A time travel tale, where a fun-loving group of hooligans try to reenact Thelma and Louise's trip? A how-to book explaining how to refold travel maps? You decide.
Write an enticing blurb--150 words or less. (The title doesn't count in the word count.) Blurbs are those enticing bits that prod you into buying the book. Sometimes they're on the back cover of the book. Sometimes they're on the inside front cover. What they always try to do is lure you into purchasing the book.
Lisa Ricard Claro was the original creator of this project. She's a dog and cat lover. She's a pro editor. She's gotten a multi-novel publishing deal... and now that those three books are out, she's working on more. Check out her site. You won't regret becoming a follower.
Include your blurb in a blog post. Include a link to this post. Also, ink your post to Mr. Linky. Mr. Linky is easy. If you've never done it, you'll be impressed with how simple he is. And then, check out the other blurb(s). It's interesting to see the different directions writers take, given the same photo.
Here's the book cover and the blurb:
Maggie Mortensen?
Maggie knew he was there. Close. Somewhere.
Viggo was hiding from her, holed up in Jefferson City. In past years, she’d stalked him when he filmed movies. Deep in her heart, she knew he’d fall for her… if only they ran into each other. But each time she got close, he slipped away. Wily. Elusive.
Viggo was on the brink of getting a restraining order on Maggie.
Or was he simply playing hard to get?
Now he was living an ordinary life smack dab in the middle of the Midwest. Viggo was just a couple of hours away… just a short roadtrip away.
Her husband, tired of seeing Hidalgo and Northern Promises and Lord of the Rings for the umpteenth time, helps Maggie plan her trip.
Will Maggie’s husband ever have to set eyes on Aragorn again? Will Maggie and Viggo finally get together? Or will Maggie’s plan prove tragic? (150 words)
And if you want to work on your blurb for next week, here's next week's photo:

Hahaha! This is hilarious! The playing hard to get line undid me. And who can blame her hubbie for packing her bags? lol This is terrific (and possibly autobiographical, my friend: ;). What a great way to open up a Friday. *wipes eyes*
ReplyDeleteRadar is so handsome. Glad he remains king. I'm sure he's earned the title with his many shenanigans. If I lived there, I'd definitely vote for #19.
Lisa--Radar's cuteness saved his life many times when he was still a puppy...
DeleteCan you say "Sioux has Viggo fever"? Fiction, my butt. Love that her husband is packing for her!
ReplyDeleteKim--Oh, some of it is definitely NOT fiction. Viggo DID live in Jeff City for a while... Thankfully, I wasn't aware until after he'd moved away...
DeleteI bet you keep the job...they will find a way not to let you go! Glad school found a second life for while anyway.
ReplyDeleteClaudia--Keep your fingers crossed. And yes. It IS a good thing for the kids and the community.
DeleteI sure hope Maggie is up-to-date on her vaccinations. Jefferson City if close to Columbia, and there's a measles epidemic at Mizzou.
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams to Radar. And congrats on your school being open next year. I hope they can keep you! We don't need you wandering around the state...
Val--Radar sleeps on OUR bed all day, napping off and on. He sleeps well no matter where he's snoozing.
DeleteAnd me wandering around the state? Who knows what kind of havoc I'll wreak if that happens.
Such good news about your school! And good luck to Radar!
ReplyDeleteCathy--It IS good news. We're really grateful. And as far as Radar, he doesn't care if his photo wins the contest. Even if he loses, he's still going to get spoiled rotten, and that's all he cares about...
DeleteYay about your school. Radar is a sweetie. And I Ctuakly know a woman who chased a singer to Branson.
ReplyDeleteLinda--Really? Do I know her? Was Andy Williams the singer?
DeleteSounds that he is not so happy with his bed. Will find time to read the blog of your friend.
ReplyDeleteWeekend-Windup--He's getting more used to his bed, but still loves OUR bed, where he can really stretch out. Meanwhile, his crate still sits--in a new spot--and it seems he really doesn't like that new spot...
DeletePoor Maggie! I find it interesting that her husband is willing to help her. Maybe she needs to look closer to home and may find that her "Viggo" is the man in front of her!
ReplyDeletePat--You ARE optimistic. I know that Viggo is NOT in front of me.
DeleteThe news about St. James the Greater staying open is wonderful. I hope you get to keep your job there. And Radar is such a sweet looking dog!
ReplyDeleteDonna--It IS wonderful news. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And thanks. He's certainly a good-natured dog.
DeleteI'm so happy your school will be open another (at least) year! Whoever made this possible is a true hero.

Pat--The generous person has apparently committed to the same donation for the next 5 years. He (or she) is definitely a hero from our perspective.
