It's a Dog's World

Maybe James Brown had it all wrong. Maybe it's not a man's world. Maybe, instead, it's a dog's world...

Our dog Radar leads quite a cushy life. Since he rarely sits still long enough to get his picture taken, I've chosen a few Google images to show you what kind of activities he fills his day with.

As soon as we leave, Radar hops up on the bed, stretches out, and takes a nap. Or several naps.

When there's snow on the ground, Radar loves to romp and burrow in the snow. He comes in with snow all over him, including his nose.

When there is a dog show on, my husband and Radar enjoy watching TV. Or a horse show. Or the show Swamp People. The two of them have fun watching any of those shows together...

Whenever there's a hose on or rain has fallen, there's puddles of water... which means mud. Some dogs hate to go outside in the rain. Not Radar. He loves getting wet and muddy... and he loves tracking that mud all over the house once his fun is done.

Along with taking many naps, Radar eats many treats throughout the day.

So, while my husband I toil and sweat during the week to provide for this furball, Radar enjoys a life he's become accustomed to: a life of leisure.

What do you do to spoil your cat or dog? Please share in the comments.

  1. I do endless belly scratches during evening tv time, BarkBox in the mail once a month, toys in the bags any time I come home from Target, not disturbing him if he is sleeping on the comforter already when I sit down, etc etc etc!

    1. Shay--I hope you pet and scratch with BOTH hands, since you have two of them!

  2. My dogs are outside pets, so they're not spoiled TOO much, except by being allowed to run free out here in the country. I DO feed them a snack of assorted leftovers on the front porch every night...on paper plates, one for each dog.

    1. Val--I've never met Jack, but I can speak for Juno: she leads a great life.

  3. These pictures are fantastic, Sioux. Your Radar makes me miss our Golden, Riley. We spoil our dogs with Beggin' Strips, which I cut into quarters because, whole, those babies pack a whopping 35 calories each! They also get peanut butter in their bones at night, which they enjoy while we watch TV. And walks, of course, three times a day for a total of about 1.5 miles. They're both 12 now, and Rigby has arthritis, so more walking is tough on him. Now that the weather is cooler, we're planning to bring them to the dog beach here in Venice. I'm excited! I know they'll have fun. :) The cat, Luna, also gets kitty treats, and she sleeps wherever she pleases. Her favorite thing is when we open the windows in the back and she can laze on the window ledge enjoying the fresh air and watching all the wildlife activity in the back yard.

    1. Lisa--The beach for the dogs. The window ledge for the cat. It sounds like heaven for your four-legged family. And I know that any animal in your home is spoiled with lots of love...

    1. Linda--No, he is WELL-loved. In the obedience class he took, the instructor said, "Radar is such a... happy dog," which meant he is wild and rambunctious. Kind of like a teacher saying about a student, "They're so energetic." ;)

  5. Winston's day looks pretty similar to Radar's. By the way, that picture of him in the snow is adorable!

    1. Pat--Yes, I imagine Winston and Radar are both spoiled in similar ways.

I wish I could take credit for the photos, but Radar always ends up a blur in my pictures. These are all thanks to Google.

  6. Every day is an endless spoil for Libs, the Tiny Terror. The latest spoiling involved the steps from the deck to the yard. It's one flight and then a landing, followed by another flight. Perfectly easy for Libs to traverse. And yet, the other night--NIGHT--at 11 ish, she refused to come up the stairs after her business. She waited at the landing, staring at me. It was a bit of an impasse because a. it was really cold and b. we're both stubborn.

Guess who had to go down the stairs to pick up Precious and bring her in???

After two or three times of this fetching, Libs decided she'd go back to traversing the entire stairs. I think she just wanted to prove something. Pffft.

    1. Cathy--And she proved it. Either "Her head is harder than yours" or "She's supremely loved." Either way, Libs is the winner--she's a dog in a wonderful home.
