Another One Bites the Dust

It's tragic when someone full of potential crashes and burns. It's even sadder when someone's life is all crash and burn. And so it was with Amy Winehouse.

Such a soulful singer she was. So young, the possibilities for her were endless.

It seems like 27 was the over-the-brim age for several artists along with Winehouse--Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin (one of my all-time favorites).

This video is for my husband, who has never heard Winehouse (since she has never appeared on NPR) and for anyone who would like a reminder of what she could do...while sitting on a stool with just a guitarist accompanying her...

  1. I am not a great pop fan but Winehouse went beyond pop. I admit I bought her work.
So young, so talented and so unhappy.

Of course you can have a chocolate cake to smuggle a file into the prison. Just make sure you behave well, or else you'll lose your privileges.

(I promise I don' really know what goes on in prisons)

  2. To be honest, she was just a tabloid headline to me, but in the past 24 hours, people have posted songs she sang, like this one, and she really was talented. It's a shame. I think an industry where creative artists must perform for crowds and music companies, is always going to spawn tragedy like this.

  3. PS--to answer your question and save my life, I find the pictures that go with my poems at various sites on line. I don't take them myself.

  4. You nailed it when you said, "It's even sadder when someone's life is all crash and burn." When she first came onto the scene, I was sad then. She seemed so troubled. I hate saying this (and I don't mean to be rude), but I wasn't too surprised to hear she had died. We lose so many good ones when they are so young.

Keith Richards is the exception to the rule. He's like a freak of nature.

  5. I never heard of her until my daughter told me. I tried playing the video, but it doesn't work. Could be my computer... maybe. But yes, it's sad when talented folks just waste their talents.

  6. She was clearly troubled, but her talent was immense. So sad that she wasn't able to overcome the demons.
