Lucky 2013

I was reminded by a comment Linda O'Connell left on Val's blog that, as June Carter sang, "Time's a wastin'." (If I punctuated that incorrectly, I will have to rely on the "Grammar -itch" in my critique group to help me out and correct me.)

Linda O'Connell is known as one our local Chicken Soup for the Soul Queens.
Now, she's threatening to become a NYMB Queen, and has been steadily submitting to those collections.
She must be stopped at all costs!

Linda smugly honestly informed Val that it was January 4 and she had already sent out 36 submissions in 2013. She then challenged Val to a duel. I am sure that sometime soon, blood was fall. Or spittle will spray. Or gray hair will be yanked out. Or maybe...feathers will fly.

Since I am better at dividing than multiplying, I have this number sentence for you. 6 divided by 2 = 3.

It's January 6 and I've already sent out 3 new submissions to the Not Your Mother's Book anthologies.

How about you? What have you done as a writer since the new year began?

  1. Write.

Happy New Year, Sioux, and best of luck in all you undertake!

    1. If I wrote like you, I'd be thrilled with the accomplishment of writing.

I hope you have a great 2013, and may you have a brush with a celebrity this year (like Emmylou?).

  2. You are all sick. What the heck? I'm still trying to clean up after Christmas... what am I doing wrong? Seriously, I was impressed with 3 submissions, but 36? Ack.

    1. Lynn--Well, there might be a slight exaggeration. Maybe. But you know me--I only speak the truth. ;)

  3. You had a lot of dessert before bed? You dreamed I said 36, silly woman.

    1. I never say anything but the truth, Linda. I NEVER stretch the truth.

  4. Ditto everything Lynn said. I'm lucky I did a blog post, and YES, it was something I dug from an old file. I keep wondering how it can be January already. Ack.

    1. Oh, Tammy. All you have to do is shift one of your cheeks (the one from the set on the lower 40) and I'm sure something will come out... ;)

  5. Holy crap! I'm such a slacker compared with you overachievers.
I haven't submitted anything this year, but I began an essay yesterday after Catherine Rankovic's workshop. I've been polishing it up with the hope I'll find a market for it some day--maybe even this year.

    1. Holy crap? I didn't know you could even get that close to a cuss word, Donna! ;)

And you can sit on your laurels a little. You, a GLOBAL contest winner. I think that "global" means it includes not only the planet but the surrounding atmosphere...

Catherine Rankovic? Isn't she that brilliant St. Louis poet?

And in response to all your "hits" from 2012, I'm saying, "Holy crap--right back at ya, Donna."

  6. What have I done so far this year? Hmm...I've been challenged to a duel. I've written 12 blog posts. I've THOUGHT about writing three submissions for NYMB. I've thanked Even Steven in my mind, though not on screen, that I was not carjacked a couple weeks ago at River City Casino. I've received three identical weight-loss product testimonials from people who apparently have address books being spammed. (Maybe a hobby for Linda in her spare time?) I've consumed 264 ounces of Diet Coke to get me in the mood for those blog posts. I've threatened to feed my husband a piece of bread that I used to wipe the sink, after he used a toilet plunger to unclog it (there's a story there somewhere). And I've avoided arrest, because life on the outside is more conducive to writing than life in the pokey.

    1. I don't know about that last statement. Lots of uninterrupted time in the evening to read and write. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it...

  7. I've written nine poems and worked on and presented nine photographs in six days!! "Submit," is not in my vocabulary. :/

KUDOS to you though!! Awesome and inspiring!

    1. And why not? Poets are inspired by other poets. Visual artists learn from and are inspired by other painters and photographers. Why not share your talent? ;)

    2. Hannah--I clicked on your name. Shoot! You're a member of Shay's and Hedgewitch's and Mama Zen's posse.

Disregard the above reply. However, I do think you over-talented women should get together and publish a chatbook--at the very least.

      Just a suggestion...

    3. Sorry about the typo. Chapbook, not chatbook.
