Looks Can Be Deceiving

Huey, a dapper, at-least-ten-years-old gentleman

Yesterday I was at a meet and greet event at Wolfgang's new location on Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis. We are trying to find Huey a forever home. (If you're interested in a handsome, well-behaved senior fellow, go to Love a Golden Rescue. He's a wonderful dog.)

There were two other (younger) dogs, who spent most of the time playing with and barking at each other. They grabbed each other's neck in their mouths. The "snapped" at each other (their brilliant white teeth flashing, but no blood was drawn). They left trails of slobber on each other.

One of the dogs was Mr. Wilson, a dog who has a golden heart but isn't a golden. He is gorgeous, he's young and he's en-er-get-ic. (The photos below don't do him justice.)

He's a Lab mix, is around 90 pounds but still needs to fill out a little.

Often it looked like Mr. Wilson and his playmate were fighting. But looks can be deceiving.

At times, we might be sitting at our computer, and it might appear as if we are just sitting there. Like we're doing nothing. After all, we're not tapping away at our keyboard, so jumping to that conclusion is logical.

But perhaps we are mentally doing some re-writing or even writing. Maybe we are searching for the perfect word. It might even be that we are imagining a scene in our heads and breaking it down, so we can recreate it on paper.

Yes, looks can be tricky, they can suck you into making the wrong assumption. And now, about those dogs. Are you in the mood to rescue either Mr. Wilson on Huey? (I'll make some fudge for any takers.)

  1. What cuties! I hope that they find forever homes soon.

I am on my computer a lot in the mornings, and I multi-task. I usually make a blog post, organize photos, make photo albums on FB and link them to my blog posts, visit other bloggers and my FB friends. I do research, learn a bunch of stuff, think of things to write in the future. I always try to encourage others and continue to build relationships.

Apparently, some of my FB friends think that I am on there too often and am goofing off all morning. One next door commented that my time might be better spent by watching short videos, giving them a thumbs up and having .50 deposited into my Paypal account for each one, since I should obviously be doing something productive. I couldn't believe it! If my husband doesn't complain, then why should she care?

I told her that I was working on my family history and hoping to pull together some historical fiction books. She said then I should treat it like a job and get on it. WHAT???? That is what I am already doing, but since she sees me on FB, she assumes that I am goofing off. I don't even play any games for crying outloud.

I just thought that I would give you my example of what some think of me and my computer time.

    1. Kathy--I have a two-word phrase (not said by some who are too polite) you could lob back at your neighbor.

But assuming you might not say things like that, you could say, MYOB or Nunya.

Mind your own business. None of your (business).

  2. I would LOVE to have Huey come join our household! He would be a great buddy for Vern, wouldn't he?? A couple of lovable old guys?? BUT, since we're going to be moving this spring or summer, we can't possibly take on another family member at this point. If the time comes....I'll check back with you.

    1. Huey even gets along with our sometimes-difficult Foley, so he WOULD get along great with Vern.

I hope your move goes smoothly...

  3. Huey deserves to live his life in comfort. My outpost is not the place for him. I do have a lab/german shepherd mix who could be Mr. Wilson's older sister. She's a Barker, of the Front-Porch-Middle-Of-The-Night Barkers. One of her kind goes a long way. Somebody dumped her and her dear, departed brother on our property, so we took them in, gave them shots and surgeries, and gained two loving (if not too bright) four-legged friends.

    1. Huey IS living a comfortable life, but we have a tiny house. Our one common living area is our "Great Room/Recreation Room/Family Room/Living Room/Dining Room/Entertainment Room. Most of the floor is taken up by the two hairy lunks (that is, when Foley is being prevented from hogging up the couch). We don't ever have three dog nights, and we don't really have a two dog house.

  4. I genuinely wish I could take Mr. Huey. My house is small, though.

    1. I'm with you. Besides, Bosco is so used to being an only child, I don't know if he would be happy sharing you.

  5. This is the only way that I can figure out how to write you back! I've thought of it, but don't know how. I've even designed my own postcards. Thanks for your sweet and inspirational comments, Sioux.

    1. Kathy--I wrote you back via a comment on your blog. (I guess that's our version of texting? ;)
