| Jake and Elwood--a sculpture in an airport...Chicago? I'm not sure where I was when I snapped this picture. The Blues Brothers--the original movie and the soundtrack--move me. I laugh, I dance in my seat, I sing along (much to the dismay of anyone within earshot). On sale now is the Chicken Soup for the Soul's anthology for writers. There is a story of mine in this collection, as well as one by Cathi LaMarche, a Missouri writer. Cathi's story, "Complementary Attraction," is the most heartwarming story I've read in a long time. It's the kind of tale--so well crafted--that you imagine the perfect ending, you hope it will conclude that way and when you read the last line, you realize LaMarche has done it...she's brought you to an extremely satisfying end. (And as she's doing it, she paints a detailed picture of the risk we take when we share our writing with others.)  My story includes something Donna Volkenannt did. If that has piqued your interest, you'll have to buy a copy of the book to find out what part Donna plays. What kind of music makes you move? ReplyDeleteI don't watch many funny movies, more of a drama/history junkie. Music changes with Old Country like Willie being favorite. However, Zac Brown bands makes me hop too! Have a good weekend....

DeleteI might have to get my hands on a copy of this one. So let me get this straight...music is supposed to make you MOVE? I must be Emily Litella. Music makes me groove. Classic rock, and old country. Movies that crack me up are in the style of Animal House, the National Lampoon Vacations, Meatballs, Napoleon Dynamite. Generally, the ones other people call stupid.
ReplyDeleteVal--One of y favorite funny movies is "The Out-of-Towners." The original one with Jack Lemmon. It's such dark humor, it's past black.

My favorite funny film actually has Dan Akroyd in it; it's called "Nothing But Trouble" and it totally cracks me up.
ReplyDeleteShay--I've never seen that one, but I will have to put it on my list. Dan Akroyd is quite mercurial, in my opinion. There was all of his SNL stuff, the Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, Driving Miss Daisy...and now a different one to check out.

Congrats to you and everybody who is in any of these books. The Blues brothers rendition of "Rawhide" is always good to get me laughing. And I also love Sandy Dennis in the Out of Towners! The Princess Bride, of course, and Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon. Michael Keeton, Harry Sherer and Christopher Guest are a hoot.
