Three writing friends--Lynn Obermoeller, Cathi LaMarche and Linda O'Connell--have stories in the Gloria Gaynor collection entitled We Will Survive. Because I love the song, I submitted something...and got a quick "no thanks." But hey, at least I tried.
So Lynn, Linda and Cathi won that round. I lost.

Actually I started a story for that call-out but never finished it...shame on me. And as far as counting rejection goes, this year has been a banner one for me. I now consider myself the Rejection Queen of 2013. Oh well, at least I'm number one at something! :)

Pat--People tell me all the time that I'm #1. They tell me with one finger raised up. At least I guess that is what they're trying to say to me.
DeleteBut if you don't submit, you have no chance of getting published. So keep carrying that banner. And looking at my writing planner, I think I could be the Princess of Rejection, so I'll hold the other end of that banner.
Oh my gosh! Thanks, Sioux! I haven't won anything in awhile. I would love the book being autographed to me because I will be keeping it.

I have a critique meeting on Wednesday, so I'll have Linda sign it as well before sending it.
My steeljaw memory trap has failed me! Wild furry teeth-gnashing thoughts are gamboling willy-nilly through the blogosphere! I can only think of the Eagles, "Take It Easy," though it's not an exact match for the title. "We may lose, and we may win, but we will never be here again..." I am drawing a blank. It's right on the tip of my trap, but I can't pry it loose. 3 Dog Night is barking for attention, but I don't know if that's it.
ReplyDeleteMy Joni Mitchell is weak. I don't think this is about putting up a parking lot, or drinking a case of you. I am beaten soundly by your musical acumen. And because I'm not a cheater, I cold-shouldered my BFF Google. It did not help that I was busy trying to stop the Edmund Fitzgerald from wrecking when I clicked on you post. My concentration was clouded by that earworm.
I have a win to celebrate. Perhaps tomorrow, on my very own blog, since the hijack of yours has grown lengthy, and I don't wish to be penalized in the future.

Sioux, never underestimate your writing ability. Gloria's "people" rejected your story because it didn't fit editorial needs. Gloria didn't reject you; she would love your refreshingly smart-ass mouth and fantastic personality. Now what is that song looping in my ear?

I always thought that the person with the most rejections is the winner!
ReplyDeleteAfter all, it shows how many submissions you made - and even if that particular publication couldn't use your piece, it doesn't de-value it, or the hard work that went into it.
Kim--I agree. And I am well on my way to being the first to the finish line. (Pat Wahler thinks she is the Queen of Rejection, but I am doing my best to de-crown her.)

You're so right -- rejections are definitely cause for celebration. And you don't know what will happen the next time you send that story out. Just 'cause it wasn't a fit for this pub doesn't mean it won't be perfect for the next. :)
