Today I got to travel with two WWWPs--one on the way and two on the way back. Our destination: the launch of the book Well Versed. Lots of laughter and nonstop chatter made the trip fly by.
| Four St. Louis writers were at the launch and are part of the anthology. From left to right: Donna Volkenannt, Marcia Gaye, Lynn Obermoeller and Sheree Nielsen. |
What things do you require/desire when you travel?
That was the best kind of trip. I didn't even have to drive.
ReplyDeleteYou're a great travel companion, Tammy.
DeleteMeclazine, Dramaine, ginger root ... and a plastic bag in case they don't work. I do love being cooped up in a vehicle where all you have to do is converse, I just wish it wasn't moving all the time. I also require a map. I need to know where I am at all times. And yes, if travelling alone I need my tunes. Often it's rousing bluegrass to keep me distracted. Nice to see you at the launch btw!
ReplyDeleteMarcia--I'm picturing you in a car with three or four other people, in there for hours, but the car doesn't move an inch...
DeleteI need directions or a GPS. I forgot to mention that.
You listen to bluegrass, I listen to Motown and disco...It was nice to see you (but alas, I didn't hear you read--perhaps another day?)
I need a neck pillow, book, and maybe a notebook. Writing comes to me on long rides. If I am driving, I need MY music playing which can be Willie, Zac Brown, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Jersey Boys or Irish Tenors...ah, wide selection, I know.
ReplyDeleteBookie--I agree. The driver must be happy with the musical choices. I sometimes think through something for my writing, but it rarely goes much further than that.
DeleteI'm like you - tummy fed and bladder emptied. Love traveling with companions because conversation does make the trip zip by. I'm easy to travel with, or so I'm told, however, I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut. Just ask my nephew, he was maybe 8 or 10 and my little sister and I drove to Ohio. I'm pretty sure I sang the entire way, making up songs. (Be glad I didn't break out into song.) I'm now nicknamed LLL Looney Lynn something or another. Maybe Loud? I just hope everyone in the car going and coming had as good of a time as I did. Thanks for driving and coming to the launch!
ReplyDeleteLynn--Now that you've put it out there, you'll have to sing sometime?
DeleteI'm glad we were able to make it. It was a nice event, and thanks for the book.
I've turned into a lousy passenger in my middle age, but I'm cool with driving. I like the GPS, I argue with it during my trip.
ReplyDeleteGlad you gals had a great time!
Kim--I too love my Tom-Tom, and it is amusing when you get off track (to stop at a restaurant, etc.) and the GPS gets frantic trying to "reroute" you.
DeleteI desire someone else to do the driving...especially when its a long distance. Looks like you gals had a lot of fun!
ReplyDeletePat
Critter Alley
Pat--I'd like to travel places a la the Jetsons, but unfortunately, those space cars haven't happened yet...
DeleteI require someone else to drive.
ReplyDeleteShay--When someone else drives I fall asleep, drool, startle awake, read, fall asleep, and the cycle begins again...
DeleteSioux, thanks for the CS reminder. I have a couple of ideas in mind, but we'll see if I get motivated to act on them. :)
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned an Aug 1 deadline, but I think (hope) it's Aug 31.
Pat
Critter Alley
Pat--You're right, which is good for me, too. I'm sure my procrastinating brain deliberately made it earlier--just for me--so I would be sure to make the deadline. ;)
DeleteI require a good driver who is receptive to my passenger-seat suggestions. Preferable one who is not a "sweaver" like my husband. He has mastered the art of simultaneously swerving as he gawks at the scenery, and weaving from center line to shoulder when he pays attention.
ReplyDeleteVal--I love the term "sweaver." Unfortunately, if the scenery is extremely interesting, I sweave at times. I guess Hick and me in a cross-country trip together would not be a good combination...
DeleteTwizzlers and a bottle of water. But for the trip home from Columbia, I'm glad Marcia brought along Tums for my tummy.
ReplyDeleteDonna--Twizzlers? Yuck--only if they're dipped in chocolate. Do they make those?
DeleteYou had a reason to have an upset stomach. Your sister-in-law was in the wings, waiting for a new heart. I wouldn't be surprised if you gobbled up a whole bottle of Tums...
Sounds like you all had a good time (except for Donna's tummy), LOL.
ReplyDeleteDianna--It WAS a great afternoon.
DeletePeanut Butter M&Ms and coffee. If I'm traveling with my daughters (without the hubby) we crank up the music and sing loud the whole way. :)
ReplyDeleteLisa--I sing too. Loudly and not ever in tune. Thankfully, I usually have my windows rolled up so no one else has to suffer...
