It's almost the end of 2013. Of course, the older you are, the faster time passes. When we were kids, summers seemed never-ending and now a season passes by so quickly, you'd better not blink or you'll miss it.
New Year's resolutions are silly (in my opinion). They don't last for very long before they (along with our resolve) crumble at the wayside, forgotten.
But dreams and goals are different. You can think about and fantasize about and work toward fulfilling a dream or achieving a goal.
What are your goals/dreams for 2014? Inquisitive minds want to know...
I had a dream that I would die on April 17, so i only have to dream and plan for three and a half months, maybe? My dream for that time is to work as little as possible (I have a month's vacation coming in a couple of weeks) and to consume as many poor neglected chocolate silk pies as possible.
ReplyDeleteShay--Are you hanging around your house, or are you and Bosco doing some traveling during that month?
ReplyDeleteIf you have a month off, does that mean we might get TWO poems every day? ;)
Yeah, I made some charitable contributions (in the form of cellulite that I am now supporting) in the name of the disadvantaged chocolate silk pies. It's not fair they should suffer...
Honestly, I try not to think about it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe shoving it back in a corner of my subconscious would be the best strategy...
DeleteI think just surviving might be my first goal. I seem to fit less and less into the world as it is now. So maybe after survival, finding my niche might be next. Third will be to find the source of itchy rash I have endured for 9 months!
ReplyDeleteClaudia--I'm sorry about the rash. A friend had shingles recently, and that sounds horrible...something I hope I never get.
DeleteMy goal is to submit something somewhere. Like the lottery, you can't win if you don't play. If I throw enough...um...STUFF at the wall, some of it is bound to stick.
ReplyDeleteVal--You and I seem to be birds of a feather. Most all of my writing is STUFF, and you're right...some of it sticks and is accepted. But it sure gets smelly at times.
DeleteNo fair! You didn't tell us yours. Mine is to finish a rough draft of a manuscript, but the original goal was to have it done by spring. Silly me.
ReplyDeleteTammy--That is mine as well. A finished rough draft of my NaNo from 2012 would be a dream come true...
DeleteOh my there are so many things to be done that my list of dreams is way to long. Have a happy new year.
ReplyDeleteLady Lilith--If I listed all the things I want to accomplish/dream of doing, mine would be too long as well. The same back at ya--have a great 2014.
DeleteMy goal is to eat less and move more. I hope I can remember which one I should do more/less.
ReplyDeleteLinda--That's my problem. Do I move more (toward the refrigerator)?
DeleteAll sorts of ideas are flitting through my head. But I think I'll be very Anne-Lamott-like and sum my goal up in two words: "Do better"
ReplyDeletePat
Critter Alley
Pat--Those two words pack a whallop, and if we all followed that advice, we'd all be in great shape.
DeleteI've been so full of dreams about my writing, and over the last five years have begun making them come true (second book just released). So I feel in a way that the "pressure is off" with regard to making dreams come true! But that doesn't mean I won't have projects; I think I'll just feel a bit lighter about them! Happy New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteMelissa--Congratulations on your second "baby" being born. You're right. We don't benefit from putting loads of pressure on ourselves, for sure.
DeleteI hope you have a great 2014...
Hi Sioux,
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I'm catching up here. So, one of my goals is to manage my time better.
Donna--With all of your writing successes, I'd say you manage your time just fine... ;)
DeleteYeah, I'm with Donna, always playing catch-up! I'm still sort of working out writing goals but I'm absolutely determined to get moving this year. Once it gets cold around here, I kind of hibernate and then when I emerge in the spring, I'm five pounds heavier and hippier. (And not the good kind of hip, either.)
ReplyDeleteSo, yeah...moving and maybe spending less time on Facebook. It's not a good thing for a curious writer to hang out on a site where people post the MOST INTERESTING THINGS EVER. (Maybe if I just move from the laptop, I can kill two resolutions with one jolt.)
Happy New Year, Sioux!
Cathy--I enjoyed the "hippie" years. Everything was groovy in those days.
ReplyDeleteOnly 5 five pounds heavier? You're fortunate.
Happy New Year to you, Cathy.
I like Pat's comment - "do better" (with everything)
ReplyDeleteLynn--I love "do better" too. It means we can falter and fumble...as long as we do better than we have in the past--and not better ALL the time...just sometimes so that it averages out as better.
