This week was supposed to be dedicated to
Nothing has gotten written this break except a submission for the St. Louis Writers' Guild "St. Louis" anthology. Nothing else. No NaNo work. I had no desire...until this afternoon.
A blogging colleague (Never met him. Don't even live on the same continent that he lives on--most of the time. I just follow him and envy that he travels. and. gets. paid. for it. AND he writes a lot.) offered to be a beta reader for me if I need it. Thanks, Sean. I appreciate the offer. I won't say I'll never take you up on it, (Sean McLachlan, do you really want to read a chick lit novel about a bunch of menopausal women writers who vent and dream of what they could do with an commercial-sized wood chipper? Really?) but I will say your offer nudged me into writing.
The Beatles claimed, "All you need is love." But what is a
How was your New Year's Eve? What kind of nudging--and in what directions--are you getting from your friends and family?
I'm getting nudged by an endless all-day snow fall. Where is some kid with a shovel when i need one?
ReplyDeleteps--feel better!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you-or anyone-has been sick! Lots of it around. New Year's Day has been like rest of holidays...different. Warm and tree stump man came to finish tree work before frigid storm comes tonight. Drop in company too. Still have managed to exercise, read, pray, and write an essay. Heck of a beginning for me...hope I can do it 364 more days is all! Do you have to go back to school tomorrow or will your holiday last until Monday. Hope you have a little more time...at least a weekend is in your future!
ReplyDeleteAlong with holiday cheer, it seems like more sickness than usual has been running rampant in our area. If it isn't flu-like symptoms, its that nasty gastrointestinal stuff. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteTry to relax and feel better soon. From the sounds of the weather forecast you might end up with an extra day or two off for writerly things.

I hope you have plenty of Puffs With Aloe, and some Nivea to slather on your nostrils to prevent chafing. Oh, and some Vicks VapoRub to ease your breathing at night.
ReplyDeleteNothing exciting here. Stayed in New Year's Eve. My family is nudging me to wash the entire drawer full of silverware they use each day, and to try harder to balance trash on top of the overflowing wastebasket.
I am sorely lacking motivation. For the above nudges, and writing.
Hope your snuffles stop and your hacking halts. I am a procrastinator who thinks she works better under pressure. I spent half a day writing thank you notes and progress reports. The indentation on my couch cushion was worse than the mattress where Sasquatch sleeps.
ReplyDeleteShay--That COULD be the beginning of a dark and ominous piece. A kid came. He had a shovel... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I think the fever broke yesterday...for good.
Claudia--Yes, I have the rest of the week, which means this weekend I will have to stop procrastinating and get my report cards done. I hope you can keep the momentum going...
Pat--I'd love an extra day or two off to write...the comments on my report cards. : (
Val--Puffs with aloe? Have not heard of it. The only thing I have to blow my nose into is toilet paper I've stolen from QT. I'll have to look into getting some of that highfalutin' stuff.
Ignore those nudges your family is shoving you with. Those are false nudges. Dig your heels in and enjoy the last of your break. They're all males. What do they need with silverware? They can eat everything with their fingers...
Linda--I am the "Princess of Procrastination" so I will be putting off my report cards until Saturday--and then it will be a day and a half of butt-in-chair as I do the work-work I need to do...
The flu hit our house--first my hubby was sick for 3 days--no flu shot. Then my daughter for a day or two (flu shot) and now I have a cold (flu shot). I was thinking yesterday that I'm glad I didn't make a resolution to write every day because it was broken yesterday. :) And this morning I am at Panera Bread with my new shiny calendar trying to go through the literally 500+ emails I let go over the holidays. :) Feel better!
ReplyDeleteMargo-- I hope YOU get better. When you have little ones at home, there is a revolving door when it comes to germs and illness...
DeleteGood luck with your shiny new calendar and your email answering...
I had sick people here, too. My family doesn't do much nudging, but I hope they will inspire a little writing. Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteTammy--I hope the sick people left, and took their germs with them...
DeleteSioux, I hope you're feeling better soon. There's nothing worse than being sick around the holidays -- and feeling too sick to write. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that Sean offered to be your Beta reader; I love reading his blog posts.
And it's cool you submitted to the St. Louis Writers' Guild anthology. I also submitted an essay, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping we both will be in the same anthology. Wouldn't that be fun?
Donna--It WOULD be fun. I'm keeping my fingers, my toes, and my eyes crossed...
DeleteYes, I love reading about Sean and his travels as well. And thanks. I DO feel better now...
Yuck - hope you feel better fast (and clear yourself of germs before next Wednesday - ha!). A few days ago I came across a hashtag on Twitter: #500wordsaday I thought maybe I could do that, and low and behold, I have! Okay, okay... so it's only the 3rd day of the month. But so far, so good! I'm also on Day 9 of Insanity. Now THAT takes nudging! Be well!
ReplyDeleteBeth--That's a great goal for you. Hopefully it's 500 words a day on your YA novel. You MUST work on that. It's got such a spot-on voice.
Delete(And I think all the germs are gone now. The fever is gone and little hacking is taking place...Besides, doesn't laughter and chocolate cure any illness?)
I feel your pain/illness/curse. Any "nudging" right now will send me teetering over the brink. Hope we all lose this, whatever it is.
ReplyDelete"Writing while in a not-quite-lucid state might result in better stuff than I've accumulated so far."
Tried that with a few bottles of Corona, and was just drunk enough to post it. Had to write "I will not drink and blog" 100 times.
Slick--I hope we all lose it, too. It seems to be something that is "shared" and goes from one family member to another...and then even sometimes returns for a 2nd visit.
DeletePoor stinker - hope you are better now.
ReplyDeleteThere is what is referred to as "the crud" slinking about Minneapolis as well. Take care of yourself!
ReplyDeletePearl
p.s. I have a fellow blogger nudging me to finish my next book -- also a man from another continent. :-)
ReplyDeleteLynn--I AM better, so now I have to finish working on my report cards. :(
DeletePearl--Did you guys send this snow to Missouri? I know, 12" is just a dusting for you Minnesota hardy stock, but we Midwesterners are wimps... Yes, finish it.
