You Can't Always Get What You Wa-ant!

But if you try sometimes...you'll get what you need.

Okay, I'm almost always in the mood for a good dose of Rolling Stones, so forgive me. My fourteen days off (holiday break) has been extended by another day (today) and I'm wondering about tomorrow, with the big dump of snow and the wind chill. And more snow is supposed to come on Wednesday.

If you're in the St. Louis area, you should be working on your Listen to Your Mother story. They're accepting submissions for the next month or so...

Chicken Soup is looking for stories about forgiveness. I don't know if I can forgive myself for eating the small smallish not-jumbo sized box of Godiva chocolate I got from a skinny friend as a Christmas gift (the gift that keeps on giving, 'cause cellulite's forever), but perhaps there is a story in there...

I got an email that a story (written for the upcoming Chicken Soup Alzheimer's collection) has made it through the first set of hoops. My fingers, my eyes and my feet are crossed. (Wait. Sorry. My feet are almost always crossed and twisted-up.) However, I had sent in several stories, and really wanted a story written about a family friend to be chosen. They didn't pick that one, but am I going to argue and beg and plead with them to change their mind? No way.

If you're a writer, what are you working on? If you're snowed in, what are you doing to keep yourself from going all redrum-crazy? Do you have some Godiva sitting around? Send it...I'm all out.

  1. Normally, weather like this is writing deluxe for me. I don't know what is wrong. I am a SLUG now! The oven stopped working and then worked this morning. Maybe there is a work virus in the house. We watched a couple of moives, ate junk we could find. Now two new books delivered off the UPS truck. Maybe I will shower and dress for first time in two days (do I admit that?) and try to use cracking new book covers as a carrot in front of my nose to move! They have already canceled school here for tomorrow.

    1. Claudia--What book are you reading? I have revised a piece and started on another but as far as major writing work being accomplished...no.

  2. 1. Congratulations!! 2. I've been working on snow, stuck cars, etc., but we're off tomorrow again, so I'm hoping to write something, if only a blog post. 3. Sorry, but I've been out of Godiva since only days after that skinny friend gave it to us. It is indeed a gift that lasts and lasts, isn't it?

  3. Hm...do I sense a certain Chicken Souper looking over her shoulder at you as you creep closer and closer?

I have many ideas, my ever-expanding butt in the chair, with a little tub of Dilettante Fruit Medley by my side...and nothing to show for it. But now I am looking over my shoulder, fearing THE NUDGE.

    1. No, she is more than 10 ahead of me...and she keeps submitting more. She's too busy writing--she doesn't have time to look over her shoulder...

You're feeling nudged? What kind of paper do you want? I can drive into town and get the paper you want...(I can also hobble you if you try to get away without writing...)

  4. Well congratulations! We will share another book. I also sent another story tot hem about my best friend, but they chose the one I wouldn't have. Such is the way of the hens over there, but I don't care. Yay, I see another signing in our futures.

    1. Linda--Congratulations to you. Yes, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of us. (Any other blogger friends keeping their fingers crossed about this collection?)

  5. You'll be happy to know that I am home trying to cook up a poem and nothing is jumping up and volunteering. (But when I tell someone I am stuck, it tends to unstick me, so thanks!) I actually got half way to work this morning before the degree of cold just smacked me back and i went back home.

    1. Yes, this weather is giving us a real smack down. (And when you get unstuck, I imagine two or three poems will get jarred loose...)

    1. Pat--
I think--being surrounded by so many talented St. Louis writers--helps me enjoy some success now and then. (And you're included in that gifted group, Pat.)
