Change

Change is hard for some of us. We try to resist new experiences and new approaches--sometimes--but when we embrace it, it often brings some (initial) discomfort but (eventually) it leads to an improvement. The new experience was enjoyable. The different strategy made things easier.

Last Thursday I attended a funeral...for my black Crocs. My dog had chewed off one of the straps (years ago) so I cut the strap off the other one so they would match. Another time, I did a decoupage project and dribbled Mod Podge all over those trusty shoes, and still they remained reliable. But when Bronx Diba offered to pop for a pair of shoes for all the Listen to Your Mom performers, I knew it was time to kill those Crocs. (I cut them up--in public at the shoe store so I wouldn't lose my resolve--in front of my daughter and my friend. Those two shoe-loving and Croc-hating women cheered, along with the Bronx Diba employees, who screamed in horror when they caught sight of my trusty Crocs.)

By the way, have you gotten your Listen to Your Mother tickets? If you don't live in the St. Louis area, have no fear--there are shows all over the country. No matter the city, the show is going to be moving. You'll laugh...you'll cry...and in the end you'll be glad you went.

Here are the shoes I chose, after spending two hours vacillating.

They may not appear to be high or scary-looking, but compare them to my tan Crocs (which are shaking in their rubber-ness, since they know good and well what I did to their cousins).

Wedges are a big step (or misstep) for me. There is a pool going on--how soon will Sioux fall on her face? As soon as she steps onto the stage? As she walks to the center of the stage? Will she save the best for last, and fall when all the performers are taking a bow, taking the whole line of writers down with her?

You'll have to come to the show to find out. And if you aren't in the area, there's always Youtube later...

What kind of changes have you embraced lately? Tell. We want to hear all about it...

  1. You picked a cute pair! I know the fear of wedges...it is a change. When I lived in Hazelwood for two years, newly married and young, I found the MOST beautiful pair of wedges...high, high ones...straps looked like yours but were violent red cloth. Oh I loved those shoes...but they did dump me a time or two. Now, even my Crocs can throw me if I am not careful!
Change...oh, it gets harder for me. Too much too fast it seems. If it comes slowly I can adapt better!

    1. Yes, my tan Crocs buck me off sometimes, too. I'm gifted in that area...

  2. I have a "pair" of crocs ..... on my feet as I write. One is brown and one is black, having lost their mates to the teething of Toni Louise. I am just happy, she left one for each foot. Having broken my left foot FOUR times, I don't do any shoes that lift me higher. I am sorely afraid of falling and breaking that foot again. I did purchase a pair of "Dawgs" recently. Rubber shoes, like my crocs, I am still breaking them in. They are hot pink!

    1. Kathy--I love your whimsical approach to shoes. I too am a "free spirit" when it comes to my footwear.

Are we sisters from the same mister?

  3. Well, first, the wedges are seriously cute. Second, the Crocs look . . . er, well-loved? Third, if you do fall on your way to the podium you'll be in good company. Remember the 2013 Oscars when Jennifer Lawrence took a header going up the stairs? I'm sure that even falling on your a** you'll be as adorable as she was. :) As to what changes I've embraced, that's a tough one. Thinking of cutting all my hair off super short and letting it go gray a la Jamie Lee. Not sure I've got the guts to do it, though. *sigh*

    1. Yeah, I'm gonna look just like Jennifer Lawrence as my cellulite spills out of my top and my Spanx explode as I tumble around on the floor.

Yeah, Lisa--it'll be a sight to behold...and film for a Youtube video...

  5. Oh, that photo! You could probably hear my sharp intake of breath over the internet. The beauty! The symmetry! The unique curves! You, Madam, are SO very lucky to have this steed in your stable.

Of course I'm talking about that tan Croc.

    1. Val--You and I have similar tastes when it comes to things of beauty. Perhaps you, Kathy and I are triplets--that were separated at birth?

  6. May those soles rest in pieces. Love the replacements! And yes, I have my ticket....

    1. Tammy--Watch your mouth. Those wedges are not replacing my black Crocs. NOTHING can take the place of Crocs. ;)

And thanks in advance for coming...

  7. Cute wedges! Yeah - good luck with those. At least they have ankle straps to hold them on, but to me that would just mean I couldn't make a clean fall and would snap my captive ankle. (I've snapped it when it was footloose and strap free, falling off flat slide-ons.) But I'm sure you'll display your utmost gracefulness and glide effortlessly across the stage. Really. Just make sure somebody is taping you for the you tube viral video.
