Do I love to mop? Certainly not. However, I don't love having a mop and wringer-bucket contraption that's large enough and sturdy enough to store in a school's custodian's closet either. And we had one of those for a while. It was heavy and yellow and lots of fun to haul up the basement steps.
There is a mop I love. It's
Are you curious? Do you wonder what cleaning instrument pleases me? Maybe not. But maybe you're curious about how I reflected on writing, when thinking of housecleaning.
If you are, check out my post at The Muffin.
I have a swifter mop, but I don't like ANY mop. I do like your article because it validates what many of us think and KNOW.
ReplyDeleteI have a Swiffer, which was last used by The Pony, while I spent six hours preparing Christmas dinner. I think he got the better end of the deal.
ReplyDeleteUgh. Mopping. That's all I want to say about that.
ReplyDeleteHi Sioux! Surprise! I know you haven't seen me here in quite a long time. In addition to reading this blog post, I read your post on The Muffin, too. Your choice of mop reminded me of the movie about Joy Mangano's Miracle Mop. I only saw bits and pieces of the movie...it was on TV, and I couldn't believe how her family treated her about her invention. They didn't believe in her at all. But the rest is history, as they say. When I DO mop, I still use a sponge mop from Dollar Tree. I want a Swiffer SO bad, but just haven't spent the money on one yet. Oh, and I agree on everything you wrote on The Muffin.
ReplyDeleteLinda--I imagine you don't have the time to mop, since you're too busy racking up the publishing credits. ;)
ReplyDeleteVal--I know that feeling. You spend hours and hours fixing the food, the family inhales it in minutes, and then spends too long (when you only have one bathroom) "recycling" the meal.
Cathy--Most of the time, I consider housework a four letter word.
Becky--We have a Swiffer, an O Cedar and an 81-pound golden retriever. I NEVER use the Swiffer. I DO use the O Cedar.
That's my recommendation...
I loved your post, Sioux! The truth that never seems to change, no matter how many centuries go by. Brings to mind the old rhyme - "A man may work from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done."
ReplyDeletePat--That is SO true. And so sad...
