Wow in More Ways Than One

I thought I was doing well having purchased a couple of boxes of Christmas cards from Target. No, they're not sent yet nor are they even addressed yet, but it's more progress than I've made, compared to some years. They are not spectacular, but they are real...

However, today I got a handmade card  from Lynn that made me want to pitch my two boxes of cards into the trash. The photo does not do it justice, but understand--it is made from tiny strips of paper, some sparkly, and there are a couple of decorative brads to augment it, and holding the strips into the tree shape, Lynn has sewn them on--via a sewing machine--using gold thread and a zigzag stitch.

She even numbered and signed them, and made 150 of them! Wow!  I got number 71. If I had made those cards, I would have been into the eggnog and by the end, they would not resemble Christmas trees in any way.

The other "wow" comes from the Women On Writing site. Check out the Muffin on Friday. I'm doing a guest post (the "Friday Speak Out"), and after reading it, you might be able to get a fresh start on a piece that's being persnickety.

  2. You are so loved! I'm not sure I would ever put that much effort in a Christmas card (I know, I'm SO lazy!). I will watch for your post on Friday!

    1. Pat--Lynn DID include a note about that if we felt special because we received one, we should...because we are special. I will be lucky if I manage to scrawl my name across the cards and put some stamps on the envelope.

And you're not lazy--you merely choose where you invest your creative time. Perhaps you could knit some cards? ;)

  3. I will check out the Muffin on Friday. Maybe I'll bump into Rebecca DeMornay. Maybe not.

Your posse is SO crafty! I did not even buy Christmas cards at Target. Maybe you SHOULD toss those cards, and have a neighbor take a picture of you to put on some personalized cards. You might want to look them over before sending them out. Just in case more of you is revealed than is socially acceptable.

    1. You are oh so right. A nipple sighting on a Christmas card would be quite upsetting (especially if the said nipple is in the vicinity of one's ankles, due to gravity and age).

  4. I just spray paint "Merry Xmas!" on people's garage doors. Women who create delicate, beautiful artwork such as that one only do it to make me look bad. Why, I ask? Whyyyy?

    1. Fireblossom--I completely agree. It ticks me off, and makes me say, "Ho, Ho, (you) Ho."

I like the garage door idea. I'll have to try that here in my neighborhood...That might me quite popular--quite wanted...

  5. I just read your guest post on The Muffin, and feel inspired to write(and recreate) a work in progress. Your suggestion was great, and I am grateful to have stumbled into the muffin and am taking small bites of it every Friday!
It's deliciously helpful in my writing life. :)

    1. Eiluv2Write--I'm glad I could pass on something useful to you. As writers, we need all the tricks up our sleeves that we can get.

(By the way, I love your idea of "nibbling" on the Muffin. They have wonderful posts every day. Check them out.)

  6. Sioux-You still make me laugh out loud. The nipple comment alone had me roaring. Been thinking about you a lot these last few months. Hope you've gotten my other messages-- on this blog, your FB page and voice mail. Would really like to reconnect.I'll be up for about a week over the holidays, and would love to meet for lunch, coffee, wine??? Whatever you have time for. Signed...Your Texas Friend.

    1. Carla--I'll be gone from the 23rd to the 30th--a pilgrimage to Granddaughterland.

However, if you're here after the 31st, I'd love to see you. (We've dumped one phone, and I've gotten no voicemail on my cellphone. Perhaps some weirdo--who now has our old number--has gotten your message and is playing it over and over and over?

I still have Max's number (if it's still the same) and will call her and leave my cell number.

  7. I'm so behind... helping my daughter with her craft fairs. Whew, do I feel old... and good thing I finished those cards before the fairs or they would have likely become next year's cards! Now I need to hop over to Wow. Thanks for the kind words. You're so creative, so I don't know what you're whining about.

    1. 150 of them! I might have the stamina to make 10 or perhaps 20, but 150? Yikes!

  8. I never cease to be amazed at what all Lynn can do. Or you - congratulations on your publication! Will go check it out. Do you think if I photocopy Lynn's card and then run off copies on computer paper, I can pass it off as my Christmas card?
