A Face Only a Mudder Would Love

Believe it or not, this is a golden retriever. Actually, he's quite a handsome golden, but with all the rain we've been getting, he becomes a mud puppy... every time he goes outside.

Some people complain about their dogs not wanting to go outside when it's raining. Sometimes, I wish I had that problem. Once Radar's out for five minutes, he might as well be out for five hours, because after a few minutes, it would be impossible for him to get any muddier...

This dog loves the water and loves the mud.

When he comes in from prancing and galloping in the raindrops and digging in the mud, he's covered from nose to tail with mud... and has a face only a mother would love.

It makes me wonder if my WIP is the same. Will I be the only one who loves it (or likes it slightly)? Will I think it's a seamless, entertaining and moving story... but no one else will have the same opinion? Right now I'm up to 65,000 words, but have reached a crucial point in the storyline. Will I muck it up? Or, will I be able to successfully navigate around the obstacles so that--eventually--I'll be able to finish it?

       Only time will tell...

What story do you have about a pet or a kid who did something--and only you were able to laugh about it?

  1. Oh, what a mess! Our tough shepherd mix has decided she does not like even the dew on her feet! But when she does go out and it is muddy, she runs the fence and comes in with muddy legs and splash on her tummy. I now have a basket of Doggie Towels on the dryer. She is so good to step in, sit on the throw rug and wait as she knows a wipe down is expected! She just rolls over and waits.

    1. Biscuit is a fragile flower and a pampered pooch... just the way they're supposed to be.

  2. I had a mud puppy once, so I feel for you...but that photo could well go viral on Facebook because it's so cute. He looks like a black or chocolate lab. Good luck navigating that WIP. 65,000 words is pretty impressive!

  3. My dog used to get a bath then go outside and roll in the most vile thing she could find.

    1. Linda--Sometimes we go walking in large nature areas, and if there's a dead deer, the dogs LOVE rolling around in it.

  4. Oh, Radar! Even muddy, he's adorable. The hubster and I were at the dog park a couple years ago. It was after a big rain, and though the park drainage was pretty good, there were one or two spots in the dog enclosure that were mud holes. This young couple came in with a one-year-old Golden. They let him loose to romp in the mud---his favorite thing---because it was his birthday. lol He had so much fun, and everyone there had a ball watching him.

Gosh...something only a mother would laugh at...that's a tough one. I'm sure I've got something, but I'll have to think about it.

    1. Lisa--For a golden, life is a party... and they're the guest of honor.

  5. ACK! He certainly is...um...BREATHTAKING! I've seen your other pictures of Radar, so I'll take your word for how handsome he is. In this photo, he looks like something those people on Animal Planet might go in search of. Some mythical critter sighted but never found.

    1. Val--Breathtaking? That sounds like you're intimating that my dog's appearance is so hideous it defies description.

He ain't no Sasquatch or Nessie... If you don't believe me, I'll send him to you for a week.

    1. Joeh--Anything that will clean up the dog so I don't have to constantly mop is a help...

  7. Skittles loves the rain, too. Quite a change from dear Bosco, who would only grudgingly go outside just long enough to pee and then run back in. Sometimes I even held an umbrella over him, because, I spoiled him. :-)

  8. Shay--From the stories you used to tell, Bosco deserved that pampering. I'm sure you also spoil Skittles, just in different ways...

  9. Well-l-l-l-l-l..Libby pooped in the house and I still thought she was pretty cute. Youngest Junior Hall pooped in the yard and though I still don't know WHY a 6-year-old boy couldn't take five minutes to come into the house and avail himself of modern (not to mention civilized) facilities--I also still laugh every time I think about it. :-)

    1. Cathy--Anything a doxie does is cute, right? And my son peed in our backyard, and we laugh about it now, but then... not so funny.
