Turkey Dogs? Or TurkISH Dogs?

In about two months a few Love a Golden volunteers are going to Chicago to meet some international canines... to meet some goldens from Turkey, so we can drive them back to St. Louis, so they can soon find forever homes.

It's an expensive endeavor. The plane fare. The vet care (done in Istanbul). The sending back of the crates. The rental of a vehicle that will hold four people and three extra-large crates.

But it should be a blast. And soooo rewarding.

If you click on the link below, you can find out more about the project, along with the problem that's rampant in Turkey. Atlanta has gotten a bunch of goldens already (Lisa and Cathy--yahoo for Atlanta) and many other cities have already gotten some goldens as well, or are in the process of getting some. (I wrote the text for the Go Fund Me page, so I'm gonna keep this short.)

Clicking on the link will also enable you to--if you so desire--donate to the cause. Every little bit helps.

And if you'd like to see a video about this project that has spread all across the country, check out this piece about the work Atlanta has done so far...

And if you have a dog or cat, whisper to them, "You're so lucky to be in a loving home..." Because they are.

    1. Skittle is--I'm sure--a wonder dog.

And conquering such a formidable foe IS something to be proud of.

  2. What an endeavor! Thanks for sharing the info. I volunteer at the GA-SPCA, so I know firsthand how tough it can be to find homes for hairy kids, especially the older ones. I'll spread the word about this.

    1. Lisa--Thanks. And taking the time to volunteer at the SPCA is admirable. Lots of people want to help out, but don't take the time to sign on and then follow through.

  3. I recently read about a woman in China who bought 100 dogs to prevent them from being eaten. Yes, eaten. So bless that lady and you and Love a Golden and anyone else who helps save a dog's life.

    1. Tammy--I could tell you a story about a Chinese restaurant that got closed down by the Humane Society... right here in St. Louis. And the story would be true.

  4. Oh this is an amazing tale! Or is that tail? Anyway these are beautiful dogs and a wonderous and generous things is being done here.
Oh, and no Biscuit does not get on the loveseat regularly. Her favorite place is on top of the picnic table! But she hates to get her feet wet, even in heavy dew on early mornings, so Monday when everything had been rained on, I invited to the cushion that was under the eve. She seemed to appreciate it.

  5. Those must be some sweet, sweet Goldens!

I would whisper to my very own rescued Juno, but with her hyperness, she might make me chomp down on her rubbery nose again while I'm talking. So she'll just have to realize her luck every evening when I come home and give her a handful of cat kibble.

    1. Val--I'm sure they ARE sweeties. And when they get into forever homes, they'll be grateful sweeties. (Just like your SSJ.)

    1. Cathy--I also loved the one that kept jumping onto the car door--so eager to get some human contact.

  7. What an honorable thing for you and your group to do. It breaks my heart to think of starving dogs and people across the world. Are you off to Turkey?

    1. Linda--No. The Turkish government has banned anyone going by the name 666 from coming into their country.

  8. It's horrifying to consider what happens to abandoned animals in other countries. Sometimes the authorities won't allow anyone to intervene. I'm thankful that Turkey is at least letting your group save some of them. How I wish they would implement a spay/neuter program to prevent such problems in the future.

  9. Pat--I think ALL dogs should be spayed/neutered until ALL dogs that are already here find homes... then we can start breeding again.

The number of unwanted dogs and cats IS horrifying and staggering...
